Jake Wightman, who earned a surprise win over Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen to take this year’s world 1500 metres title, has donated the spikes he wore in Eugene, Oregon, to the World Athletics Heritage Collection.

The Briton, shortlisted for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, is one of four champions to add items which have been inducted into the 3D virtual platform of the Museum Of World Athletics (MOWA).

Ingebrigtsen is one of the other new donors - the 22-year-old Norwegian has given the World Athletics Heritage Collection the bodysuit he wore in winning world indoor 1500m silver earlier this year in Belgrade, along with his name bib.

Another Eugene medallist, home discus thrower Valarie Allman - who added world bronze to the Olympic title she won last year and concluded the season by winning the Diamond League - has also offered a new donation in the form of the singlet and shoes she wore at last year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Meanwhile Sweden’s 2004 Olympic high jump champion Stefan Holm has donated the singlet and bib number he won in earning the final victory of his career coming at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Valencia 2008.

Holm has also given bibs from the Lisbon 2001, Birmingham 2003, and Budapest 2004 championships in which he also won the world indoor high jump title.

Another notable discus artefact in this latest MOWA induction is one of the implements used in the 1952 Olympic women’s discus final, as well as an autographed discus and a painting from four-time Olympic discus throw champion Al Oerter of the United States.
