Krupka demanded to know why Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin had been allowed to attend the UNESCO Conference of Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport (COP8).

"Oleg Matytsin should step down or be removed from continuing his function because of the war in Ukraine started by the Russian Federation," Krupka said.

"We understand that this can be perceived as a political decision but we strongly think that UNESCO as an organisation which stands for promotion of democratic and sport values should react.

"To this day, Secretariat of COP8 decided not to take any action which is unacceptable and damaging for the anti-doping community.

"Having in mind that Russian Federation continues its aggression in Ukraine and is responsible for war crimes committed on Ukrainian soil, the decision was not taken by UNESCO even after official requests formulated by several UNESCO members, one of which was Polish Government," she informed the WADA meeting.

"In our opinion, UNESCO should show its commitment in this matter," she told UNESCO chief of executive office Mariagrazia Squicciarini.

Krupka cited the response of the Council of Europe which had taken what she described as "very radical measures against Russian Federation and its representatives."

"Decisions on whom to include or exclude do not rest with UNESCO Secretariat but with member states, this is something that member states had to decide," Squicciarini responded.
