Moto Sasaki of Japan and France's Aude Cassagne have secured the respective men's and women's BMX freestyle flatland titles at the Urban Cycling World Championships in Abu Dhabi.

Sasaki won with 93.83 points as he led a Japanese podium sweep and bettered his silver-medal finish at the 2021 event in Montpellier.

His compatriots Masato Ito and Kio Hayakawa came second and third with 90.50 and 86.67, respectively, to complete the medal monopoly at the Corniche venue in the Emirati capital.

Cassagne was far superior in the four-person women's field as she won gold with ease.

She scored 87.00 points to beat closest competitor Julia Preuss who finished on 74.50 points.

It was the German's second heartbreak in as many years as she also narrowly missed out on gold in 2021 to Austrian rider Irina Sadovnik.

Japan's Kirara Nakagawa rounded out the top three on 74.33 to prevent Cassagne's compatriot Mélissa Droll from achieving a medal as she scored 73.17 points.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow on what is the penultimate day of competition.

The women's elite trial final, the men's elite 20- and 26-inch trials finals, and the junior men's deciders in the same disciplines are all scheduled.
