Brazilian stars are set to gear up for the return of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing Americas Championships in São Paulo in Brazil.

Karina Maia is bidding to retain her women's category A title, which she won in Montreal four years ago.

However, she faces challenges from compatriot and world number one Carminha Oliveira and the United States' Shelby Jensen.

In the men's event, Jovane Guissone, who is unbeaten at this level since 2011, is the headliner for the host nation as he prepares to take on the category B competition.

Argentines Vanderson Luis Chaves and Hugo Alderete, who won silver and bronze in Canada, are also expected to return.

American Byron Branch is tipped to potentially defend his category A title, despite his last appearance coming at a World Cup in 2020.

Brazilians Fabio Luiz Damasceno and Alex Sandro Souza are two of his biggest challenges.

The competition is set to run from October 22 to 25.
