Mahomed was elected following WAKO Africa's General Assembly on August 27 in Johannesburg, held on the side-lines of the WAKO Africa Continental Championships.

He is also the President of South African Kickboxing Association.

Emmannuel Essessima of Cameroon held the post before and has been the President since the organisation was established.

World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) President Roy Baker thanked Essessima for the work he has done over the years.

Resat Onur of Malawi was elected as the general secretary of WAKO Africa.

South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee President (SASCOC) Barry Hendricks, who was present at the General Assembly, congratulated Mahomed after the election and believes that "he will bring new energy and invest all his experience in the development of the sport of kickboxing in the future. The General Assembly also saw WAKO vice-presidents Espen Lund and Carlos Ramjanali and WAKO technical director Romeo Desa attend.

WAKO had suspended WAKO Africa in February, alleging its leadership did not meet often enough or update statutes as required.

In a letter shared with National Federations, WAKO President Roy Baker charged WAKO Africa with "Material non-compliance" and "total inactivity" were the reasons listed by Baker for the suspension, in a letter shared with National Federations back then.

WAKO has been a member of the Global Association of International Sports Federations since 2006.

It got full International Olympic Committee recognition last year.

Kickboxing has appeared once at the African Games in 2007 in Algiers.
