China claimed the men’s and women’s individual and team all-around titles on day two of the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Qatar.

The men’s individual all-around competition proved a closely fought affair with China’s Cong Shi victorious with a score of 83.833 across all six apparatus.

Shi had the best score of 14.133 on the horizontal bar and placed second on the parallel bars with 14.867.

Double world champion Carlos Yulo of the Philippines, who led overnight at the Aspire Dome in Qatar, was forced to settle for second with a final score of 83.767.

This was despite Yulo having the best score on two pieces of apparatus, with 14.800 on the floor and 14.917 on the vault.

Third place overall went to China’s Jiaxing Yang with a final score of 83.733, with his best performance coming on the horizontal bar, as he placed second with 14.000.

China scored 255.299 points as they won the men’s team event, with Japan in second on 249.500 and Chinese Taipei in third with 249.211.

In the women’s individual all-around, victory went to China’s Jin Zhang with a score of 55.400.

Zhang’s best performances were two second placed finishes - on the balance beam with a score of 14.200 and on the floor with a total of 13.700.

Second place went to her compatriot Xijing Tang with a score of 53.967, with Tang’s best performance coming as she finished second on the uneven bars with a score of 14.500.

Yunseo Lee of South Korea finished in third place overall with a score of 53.633, with her best performance on the day coming on the uneven bars, as she finished in third with a total of 14.300.

In the women’s team China comfortably topped the podium with a score of 167.366, with South Korea in second with 157.566 and Japan placing third on 154.867.

All podium finishers as well as the fourth and fifth placed teams have qualified for the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, due to be held in Liverpool, England, from October 29 to November 6.

Men’s and women’s apparatus finals are due to be held on Saturday (June 18) and Sunday (June 19).
