Ukraine dominated on the penultimate day of the Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul in Brazil, winning six gold medals to extend their commanding lead at the top of the standings.

The country took a clean sweep in the orienteering events with triumphs in both the men's and women's relays at the Pesque e Pague Aventura.

Oleksandr Sankin, Ruslan Nikolayenko, and Nazar Levtskyi combined for a leading time of 2 hours 1min 9sec in the men's contest.

All three recorded the quickest time of their leg as they outpaced Hungary and the Czech Republic who clocked in after 2:16:56 and 2:17:17, respectively.

In the women's event, it was Hanna Androsovych, Iana Melnyk, and Hanna Fedosieieva who took the glory.

The trio were trailing the Czech Republic for two-thirds of the race until Luana Dos Santos posted a time of 1:20:24 which left her team as not classified, while the Ukrainians won with a time of 1:48:53.

Hosts Brazil rounded out the top three but were also labelled as not classified.

Anatolii Chervonenko picked up Ukraine's only wrestling gold medal of the day in the men's under-86 kilograms competition.

The Samsun 2017 silver medallist got the better of Iran's Hamidreza Kanani in the final while Amit Krishan of India secured bronze.

In the other wrestling tournaments, Ukraine's Mykyta Latiuk won silver in the men's under-92kg tournament and Serhii Drahan came third in the men's under-125kg competition.

Further success was in store for Ukraine, this time in the athletics events.

Volodymyr Danylchenko picked up gold in the men's triple jump ahead of the United States' Anderson Silver and Maris Grenins of Latvia in second and third, respectively.

Anastasiia Sydorenko then finished ahead of Kenyan duo Sharon Bitok and Rebecca Matiko to win the women's 800 metres.

Viktoriia Kochmaryk, Solomiia Kuprych, Yuliia Shapoval, and Kristina Kiniaikina continued Ukraine's dominance on the track with a gold-medal performance in the women's 4x400m relay, ahead of silver medallists Kenya and the third-placed US.

Ukraine now have 56 gold medals in total while the US and Iran follow behind on 19 and 12, respectively, with one day left of the event.
