Pre-tournament favourite Neil Robertson is safely through to the second round of the World Snooker Championship, having seen off Ashley Hugill.

Australia's Robertson held a 6-3 overnight lead at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre and opened with three consecutive frame victories today to put the match beyond any real doubt.

Robertson ultimately won 10-5, having made four centuries.

England's Hugill could not crack three figures in defeat.

Robertson won here in 2010 and 2015 champion Stuart Bingham joins him in round two.

Englishman Bingham beat China's Lyu Haotian 10-5, having also held a 6-3 overnight lead.

There was success for one Chinese player, however, as Yan Bingtao saw off England's Chris Wakelin 10-6.

Next up for 22-year-old Yan is Mark Selby, the defending champion.

England's Selby said before the event that he had considered not defending the world title because of struggles with his mental health.
