Five FIBA statisticians, who used the course as a refresher, and twelve MABA statisticians managed to participate in the workshop last weekend (April 16 and 17) at the MABA office in Kuala Lumpur.

It was help under the auspices of FIBA's statistician certification programme, which places a focus on preparing bookkeepers to perform during major basketball events.

Participants who were able to pass the qualification test at the two-day workshop are now FIBA-certified statisticians for a period of two years.

"This is the first time we're having this workshop in Malaysia after the global pandemic," MABA secretary general Tan Kee Hian said.

"This workshop will help to upgrade them with the new FIBA rules and to further improve the standard of officiating in Malaysia."

The workshop was conducted by Maarouf Mawloud, head of eligibility, statistics and data at FIBA Asia.

The workshop is part of the regional office’s continuous efforts to boost National Federations, including stats departments, which play an important role as they produce trustworthy data and predictions during the games.

The certification process is entirely managed by FIBA Asia.
