Defending champion Paula Badosa is among the women's singles quarter-finalists at the Indian Wells Masters, progressing past US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez in straight sets.

A pair of 6-4 victories helped the Spanish world number seven beat her Canadian opponent on Stadium 1 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California.

"Can we make every week the tournament here?" Badosa quipped afterwards.

"I’d vote for it.

"It’s amazing to be back here.

"Today was very tough.

"Leylah is an amazing player, very fast, very good timing.

"I knew I had to fight and serve very well.

"I think I did that the entire match.

"I’m very, very happy to be in the quarter-finals again."
