Preparations have begun to provide a series of educational events at the 2022 and 2024 International University Sports Federation (FISU) World Forums, the sporting federation has announced.

The event typically runs biennially on alternative years to the FISU World University Games, but the 2022 edition will be an exemption due to the delayed Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games.

The five-day programme will provide participants the chance to discuss and debate issues impacting global university sport.

In addition to FISU, the Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC) and the University Sports Federation of Costa Rica (FEDEU) will discuss the theme of ‘University Sport as a Driver for Sustainable Development’.

Sub-themes include health and well-being, gender equality, reducing inequalities and quality education.

Organisers of the 17th edition that is due to take place in 2024 are aiming to promote positive values in university sport and education, such as inspiring young people to take leading positions in sport within their communities.

The 2022 FISU World Forum, which was due to be held in the Costa Rican city of Cartago in April, was delayed last year, and is now scheduled to take place between December 5 and 9.

The 2024 FISU World Forum was awarded to Split, Croatia in December and it is set to take place between between July 24 and 28.
