Home favourite Dmytro Yasnolobov of Ukraine began the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) SnowKite World Cup in style with just 10 points, the best possible, at the season's first leg in Kharkiv.

Over the course of 13 races in the men's ski class, Yasnolobov won 10, came second twice and recorded one fourth-place finish.

With three discards available to the athletes, the number 5 bib eliminated his worst performances to end with the lowest score possible.

The podium was made up by Yasnolobov's compatriots Volodymyr Yavorskiy and Maksym Skoryk with 23 and 24 points, respectively.

Across all four disciplines Ernst Fuchs of Austria was the only competitor from outside Ukraine, he finished 16th in the men's ski.

Marina Shevchuk triumphed in the women's ski as she was the only athlete and predictably won every race bar two where she did not finish.

Despite crashing out in the final race, Vadim Grushko dominated the men's snowboard class with a net score of 10.

His countryman Evgen Pugachev posted 18 points to take the silver medal while Mykhailiuk Viacheslav's 38 points was enough to secure bronze.

Iksana Ivanova was gifted the women's snowboard title.

She finished with 10 points after her only opposition Mariia Kyrylova did not come to the starting area for the first six races and then did not finish the remaining seven.

The event in Kharkiv was the first in the SnowKite World Cup for two years due to COVID-19 restrictions causing the cancellation or postponement of every prior competition.

Resia in Italy is set to host the next stop of the season from February 4 to 6.

Italy is then scheduled to stage the final two events, in Roccarosa from February 24 to 27 and Cortina d'Ampezzo from either March 17 to 20 or 24 to 27.
