Johannes Lamparter recorded his maiden International Ski Federation Nordic Combined World Cup victory in Val di Fiemme in Italy.

The Austrian scored 139.5 points in the ski jumping event to give himself the lead going into the cross-country race.

The 20-year-old's 105.5 metres effort was followed by Eric Frenzel of Germany, who narrowly missed out on pole position with a score of 136.1 points from a 105m jump.

Norway's Jens Luraas Oftebro placed third after posting a 101m jump for 135.1 points.

Lamparter was superb on the cross-country skis and managed to keep the chasing pack of Frenzel and his compatriot Vinzenz Geiger, as well as Oftebro and Austria's Mario Seidl, at a distance as they lost two seconds on Lamparter in the first 2.5 km.

The Austrian had developed an insurmountable lead going into the final lap, crossing the line in 25min 49.8sec.

It came down to a sprint finish for silver and bronze, with Geiger pipping Frenzel by 0.2sec as he secured his third consecutive second-place result of the season.

The result sees Lamparter move on to 520 points, closing the gap on Jarl Magnus Riiber of Norway, who sits atop the overall standings on 700 points.

Riiber was absent from the event in Italy.

Geiger, on 430 points, completes the top three.

In the women's mass star event, Gyda Westvold Hansen of Norway came out on top following superb performances across the board to claim her sixth win from six this season.

The 19-year-old came second in the cross-country race, behind eventual runner up Anju Nakamura of Japan, before setting a distance of 101m to top the table with an overall score of 124.6.

Nakamura scored 110.5 and Austria's Lisa Hirner bagged the bronze medal with 109.4 points.

Hansen has developed a commanding lead in the women's overall standings with 600 points, while her compatriots Ida Marie Hagen and Marte Leinan Lund occupy second and third with 311 and 290 points, respectively.
