Eritreans Aron Kifle and Rahel Ghebreneyohannes claimed the victories in the men's and women's races today on the latest leg of the World Athletics Cross Country Tour in Atapuerca in Spain, with both golds coming down to sprint finishes.

Kifle claimed the men's win over 9,000 metres in a time of 25min 33sec, holding off Burundi's Rodrigue Kwizera by one second.

Joel Ayeko of Uganda took bronze a further two seconds back, pipping his compatriot Thomas Ayeko on the line, after both finished with the same time.

Abdessamad Oukhelfen Ben Haddou was Spain's top finisher in fifth in 25:44, just in front of a second Burundian Thierry Ndikumwenayo.

Completing the top 10 were Abeje Ayana of Ethiopia, Spain's Carlos Mayo, Hosea Kiplangat of Uganda and Eritrean Yemane Haileselassie.

Only one second separated the top three in the women's 8,000m race, and it was Ghebreneyohannes who crossed the line first in 25:03.

Beatrice Chebet of Kenya was a second back in second place, holding off her compatriot Margaret Chelimo in a photo finish, who settled for third.

Another Kenyan was just two more seconds back in fourth, Norah Jeruto, and Celliphine Chespol made it a fourth from the East African nation in a row in a lonely fifth.

The rest came in a sizable gap back, starting with Esther Chebet of Kenya in sixth, and the rest of the top 10 was Meskeram Mamo of Ethiopia, Kenya's Lucy Maiwa Muli and Ethiopians Tiget Getnet and Zerfe Wondemagegn.

The next leg of the Tour is set to take place in Sevilla next Sunday (November 21) at the Cross de Italica.
