Sweden's Jesper Svensson set a five-game record on his way to topping men's singles qualifying at the International Bowling Federation Super World Championships in Dubai.

In the first five-game qualifying session, Svensson set an incredible world-record average-game score of 269 - the highest possible average score is 300, which would equate to five perfect games.

Svensson was unable to maintain his level in the second session of five games but still came out of qualifying in first place with an overall average score of 258.8.

Saudi Arabia's Abdul Rahman Alkhliwai rolled two perfect games in the opening five-game session and qualified second with an average score of 246.5, while Laurynas Narušis of Lithuania qualified third with 239.4.

Svensson's domination did end with the men's singles, however.

Sweden Doubles 2 topped the men's doubles with an average score of 246.7, leading Germany Doubles 1 by 6.5 and South Korea Doubles 2 in third by a further 0.6.

In the women's doubles, the Singapore Bowling Federation (SGP) Doubles 2 led the Russian Bowling Federation with average scores of 233 and 227.4 respectively.

The SGP Doubles 1 qualified third with 225.6, while South Korea Doubles 2 and Sweden Doubles 2 rounded out the top five.

American Kelly Kulick leads the way in the women's singles on 247.9, with Sweden's Joline Persson Planefors and Malaysia's Natasha Roslan in second and third on 237.2 and 232.3 respectively.

The doubles round of 32 and quarter-final matches take place tomorrow.
