Britain's Alfie Hewett won a thrilling men's singles final against Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina to claim the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters title.

Hewett had won the men's doubles with compatriot Gordon Reid the day prior as they avenged their Tokyo 2020 final defeat to France's Stephane Houdet and Nicholas Peifer, and he followed that success up with an excellent performance here.

Fernandez, ranked second in the competition behind Hewett, pegged the Briton back in the second set and looked set to take the victory, before Hewett held on in the third set, eventually winning 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.

In the women's singles, The Netherlands' number one ranked Diede de Groot came through Japan's second seed Yui Kamiji to claim the title.

De Groot won the first set 6-3, only to find herself broken twice in the second set.

Eventually, she came through a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 winner.

De Groot has enjoyed an excellent calendar year, winning the gold medal at Tokyo 2020, the US Open and now the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters title.
