Dutch players Sam Schroder and Niels Vink top their groups at the NEC Wheelchair Masters in Orlando after recording their second successive straight sets quad singles wins.

In Group A Schroder overcame defending champion David Wagner of the US 6-3, 6-3, while in the group’s other match, American Bryan Barten was beaten in three sets by Brazil’s Ymanitu Silva of Brazil 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.

In Group B Vink of the Netherlands cruised to victory against Britain’s Andy Lapthorne 6-0, 6-2 to move top of the standings, while Japan’s Koji Sugeno swept aside Kyu-Seung Kim of South Korea 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles competition also got underway today in the men’s, women’s and quad events at the United States Tennis Association National Campus in Orlando.

In the quad event Vink and Schroder teamed up to defeat Wagner and Nicholas Taylor of the US 6-1, 6-0, while Kim and Sugeno, who also played each other in the singles today, beat Lapthorne and his British partner Antony Cotterill 6-1, 6-2.

In the men’s event two matches featured double bagel scorelines, with France’s Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer beating Tokito Oda of Japan and Dermot Bailey of Britain, and Jef Vandorpe of Belgium and Ruben Spaargaren of the Netherlands defeating Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina and Martin De La Puente of Spain, with both matches ending 6-0, 6-0.

Elsewhere in the men’s event the British pairing of Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett, who meet tomorrow in the wheelchair singles competition, defeated American pairing Chris Herman and Conner Stroud 6-1, 6-1, while Dutch pair Tom Egberink and Maikel Scheffers won 6-2, 6-3 against Casey Ratzlaff of the US and Alexander Cataldo of Chile.

In the women’s doubles Diede De Groot and Aniek Van Koot of the Netherlands registered a double bagel against Maria Florencia Moreno of Argentina and Angelica Bernal of Spain 6-0, 6-0, while Momoko Ohtani of Japan and Zhu Zhenzhen of China beat Japanese pairing Yui Kamiji and Saki Takamuro 6-1, 6-4.
