Anastasiya Kirpichnikova and Kliment Kolesnikov starred again for hosts Russia on the final day of the European Swimming League (LEN) European Short Course Swimming Championships in Kazan.

Kirpichnikova had already secured women’s 800 and 1,500 metres freestyle titles at the Palace of Water Sports prior to lining up in the 400m event.

The 21-year-old completed a hat-trick of victories by achieving a time of 3min 59.18sec in the final.

Her compatriot Anna Egorova and Germany’s Isabel Marie Gose completed the podium places, achieving times of 4:00.52 and 4:01.37, respectively.

Kolesnikov also earned his third individual title of the European Championships by claiming the men’s 100m freestyle title.

The 21-year-old, winner of the 50m and 100m backstroke events, secured gold in a winning time of 45.58.

He touched narrowly clear of Italy’s Alessandro Miressi, who took silver in 45.84.

Russia’s Vladislav Grinev completed the podium places in 46.06.

A third Russian gold of the day was earned by Ilya Borodin, with the 18-year-old lowering the men’s junior world record to 3:58.82 in the 400m individual medley.

Italy’s Alberto Razzetti was 1.51 seconds off the pace as the silver medallist, with Hungary’s Hubert Kos winning bronze in 4:03.16.

Marco Orsi triumphed in the men’s 100m individual medley event with the Italian clocking 50.95.

Greece’s Andreas Vazaios and Austria’s Bernhard Reitshammer finished in 51.72 and 51.91 to secure the minor medals.

Orsi’s fellow Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri won the men’s 800m freestyle title for the third time in his career in 7:27.94, followed by Germany’s Florian Wellbrock and Sven Schwarz in 7:27.99 and 7:33.85.

Arianna Castiglioni and Benedetta Pilato delivered an Italian one-two in the women’s 50m breaststroke final, achieving times of 29.66 and 29.75.

Russia’s Nika Godun was third in 29.80.

Swedish star Sarah Sjöström delivered a championship record time of 24.50 to win the women’s 50m butterfly title, lowering the previous mark of 24.56.

The Netherlands’ Maaike De Waard was the runner-up in 24.97, with Italy’s Silvia Di Pietro third in 25.09.

Dutch swimmer Marrit Steenbergen was crowned women’s 200m freestyle champion in 1:52.75, with the Czech Republic’s Barbora Seemanova and Katja Fain of Slovenia following in 1:53.58 and 1:53.88, respectively.

Poland’s Radoslaw Kawecki claimed the men’s 200m backstroke title in 1:48.46.

He ended 1.27 seconds ahead of second-placed Lorenzo Mora, with Italian team-mate Michele Lamberti finishing third in 1:50.26.

Belarus' Ilya Shymanovich secured gold in the men’s 50m breaststroke final, ending the event in a time of 25.25.

Turkey’s Emre Sakci touched the wall in second place in 25.39, with Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi third in 25.54.

The European Championships concluded with The Netherlands winning the mixed 4x50m medley final in 1:36.18.

Italy and Russia completed the podium in 1:36.39 and 1:36.42.

Russia topped the final medals table at their home European Championships with 11 gold, five silver and eight bronze medals.

The Netherlands were second with eight gold, five silver and five bronze medals.
