Five teams have withdrawn from the Men's Under-19 World Floorball Championship in the Czech Republic due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The International Floorball Federation (IFF) Central Board has confirmed the delayed event will go ahead as planned from August 25 to 29, but said Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Norway have all had to pull out of the tournament.

They have been replaced by Estonia, Austria, Belgium and Italy, while there is also uncertainty surrounding the participation of Russia.

The IFF said it had approached nine countries with a view to stepping in for the teams that are unable to compete "based on regional quotas, ranking order of the nations, and their readiness and willingness to participate".

Groups A, B and C are set to be held with four teams and Group D will include three nations, with the match schedule due to be published once the Russian situation has been resolved.

Eleven countries - Czech Republic, Finland, Latvia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, Russia and Poland - had confirmed their willingness to play the tournament in Brno.

Teams in Groups A and B will compete to win the Under-19 World Championship, with Groups C and D offering opportunities for the lower ranked sides.

The IFF has also put a decision on whether the Women's Under-19 World Championship can take place forward to its competition office.

The event in Sweden, which has been postponed three times, is due to be held from September 1 to 5.

"There is a current exchange with all involved parties to determine the best possible solution," the IFF said.
