Colombian success continued at the Pan American Track Cycling Championships with victories in both the men’s and women’s team pursuit events in Lima.

The Colombian squad celebrated at three gold medals of the opening day of the Championships, which they surpassed on the second National Sports Village (VIDENA) Velodrome.

Lina Hernandez, Yesi Duenas, Jessica Parra Rojas and Lina Rojas Zapata earned gold in the women’s team pursuit event.

The Colombian squad overtook their rivals from Mexico in the final to end the contest early.

Chile completed the podium as Paula Villalon Sanchez, Daniela Guajardo, Aranza Villalon Sanchez and Paola Munoz Grandon achieve a time of 4min 44.760sec to beat Ecuador in the bronze medal ride.

Colombia’s men’s team pursuit squad also overcame Mexican opposition in their gold medal ride.

Julian Osorio, Juan Esteban Arango, Brayan Sanchez and Jordan Parra finished the four kilometre event in 4:04.056 to secure gold.

Mexico finished off the pace with Tomas Aguiree Garza, Richard Pena Salas, Jorge Peyrot Balvanera and Edibaldo Maldonado Rayas clocking 4:07.715 in second.

Argentina beat Chile by less than a second to win the bronze medal, with their time of Tomas Conte, Juan Curuhet, Lucas Dundick and Ruben Ramos finishing in 4:11.796.



A third Colombian gold medal of the day came in the women’s elimination race, with Lina Hernandez the final rider left in the competition.

Canada’s Maggie Coles-Lyster was eliminated in second place, with Mexico’s Sofia Arreola receiving the bronze medal in third.

Colombia’s medal charge continued in the men’s keirin event, with Kevin Quintero followed across the line by team-mate Santiago Ramirez.

Njisane Phillip rounded off the podium for Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago celebrated victory in the men’s 15 kilometre scratch race, with Akil Campbell first across the line after a 60 laps of racing.

Barbados’ Eastmond Jamol crossed in second, with Guatemala’s Julio Padilla Miranda rounding off the top three.
