Colombia earned three gold medals on the opening day of the Pan American Track Cycling Championships in Lima.

The Colombian team had been most successful at the National Sports Village (VIDENA) velodrome during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and a repeat appears likely.

Colombia’s Yarli Mosquera, Juliana Gaviria Rendon and Martha Bayona Pineda triumphed in the women’s team sprint competition in a time of 50.044sec.

Mexico’s Melanie Ramirez Noriega, Sofia Martinez Hernandez and Yuli Verdugo Osuna were second in 50.455, with Argentina’s Milagros Sanabria, Valentina Luna and Natalia Vera third in 53.114.

The men’s team sprint title was also earned by Colombia as Kevin Quintero, Ruben Murillo and Santiago Ramirez took gold in 45.227.

Zion Pulido, Njisane Phillip and Keron Bramble secured the silver medal for Trinidad and Tobago in 45.442.

The podium was completed by Argentina’s Leandro Botazzo, Franco Victorio and Lucas Vilar, who clocked 45.630.

A hat-trick of titles for Colombia was sealed by Jordan Parra, who claimed victory in the men’s elimination race.

Parra held off the challenge of Argentina’s Juan Curuchet to earn the title, with Chile’s Cristian Arriagada Pizarro winning bronze.

The women’s scratch race saw Barbados’ Amber Joseph earn gold at the end of the 10 kilometres event.

Mexico’s Victoria Velasco Fuentes was second, with Trinidad and Tobago’s Alexi Costa completing the top three.
