The last four at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women’s EuroBasket was confirmed after a dramatic day of action that included defending champions Spain being eliminated after overtime.

Serbia defeated the defending champions and co-hosts 71-64, coming from behind to triumph in their opponents own backyard of Valencia.

On a day of epic encounters, Belgium edged out Russia 85-83, with Julie Allemand coming up with the crucial score for Belgium in the final seconds.

Emma Meesseman also put in an impressive showing for Belgium, finishing with the highest individual score of the tournament so far of 33 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Despite Spain’s exit, co-hosts France triumphed in Strasbourg beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 80-67 with a dominant, physical display that maintained their unbeaten record.

The remaining quarter-final saw Belarus overcome Sweden 58-46, with Belarus impressive in defence while Sweden proved wasteful in attack.

The four semi-finalists have all secured their places in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournament, while the four sides defeated today will compete for the two remaining spots in the qualifying tournament on Saturday (June 26).

Following two rest days, the semi-finals of the Women’s EuroBasket will also take place in Valencia on Saturday, with Belarus facing France and Serbia up against Belgium.
