Norway’s Vilde Nilsen and Russian duo Vladislav Lekomtsev and Marta Zainullina made it three wins from three on another triumphant day for the trio at the World Para Nordic Skiing World Cup in Vuokatti.

Their gold medal success in today’s long distance cross-country races adds to their victories in the middle distance and sprint events at the Finnish venue.

Zainullina led a Russian one-two-three in the women’s sitting 15-kilometre contest as she registered a winning time of 54min 20.9sec.

Irina Guliaeva was second in 54:59.9 with Natalia Kocherova finishing third in 55:01.9.

There were five Russians inside the top five with Maria Iovleva and Akzhana Abdikarimova coming fourth and fifth respectively.

Russia also dominated the men’s 20km standing competition which was won by Lekomtsev in 45:23.6.

Rushan Minnegulov clinched silver in 46:02.8 while Vitalii Malyshev completed an all-Russian podium when he came home in 47:42.2.

Nilsen achieved her third successive gold medal after winning the women’s 15km standing event in 42:44.2.

The other medals were won by Ukrainian athletes with Yuliia Batenkova-Bauman earning silver in 44:30.5 and Liudmyla Liashenko capturing bronze in 44:34.5.

Belarusian Sviatlana Sakhanenka and guide Dzmitry Budzilovich backed up their victory in the middle-distance event by claiming gold in the women’s visually impaired 15km competition.

The duo won the race in 42:00.4 ahead of two Russian pairings in Vera Khlyzova and guide Natalia Iakimova and Anna Panferova and guide Andrei Zhukov who clocked 42:31.1 and 42:55.9 respectively.

In the men’s visually impaired 20km race, Stanislav Chokhlaev and guide Oleg Kolodiichuk secured top spot in 45:47.4.

Belarus’ Yury Holub and guide Uladzimir Chapelin bagged silver in 45:53.9, while Canadian Brian McKeever and guide Russell Kennedy picked up bronze in 46:02.0.

Russian Ivan Golubkov’s hopes of a third successive win were dashed by Italy’s Giuseppe Romele in the men’s sitting 18km event.

Romele triumphed in 54:30.7 as Golubkov had to settle for silver in 54:38.4 ahead of compatriot Aleksandr Davidovich who clocked 55:11.0 to take bronze.

Action in Vuokatti is scheduled to conclude tomorrow with men’s and women’s short distance competitions.
