The first of two International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Cross World Cup contests in Feldberg has been cancelled because of inclement weather.

Qualification had already been moved from yesterday to today because of poor weather, but a jury decided conditions were still not safe for racing.

A second World Cup race is scheduled tomorrow, with organisers hopeful that will be able to go ahead.

"But the most important task is to keep the athletes safe and healthy, especially with the upcoming World Championships in less than two weeks in Idre Fjäll," said FIS cross race director Klaus Waldner.

"I want to thank all the volunteers, the entire staff of the Feldberg Organising Committee for the hard work and commitment.

"Now it is full focus on tomorrow’s race."

Swiss skier Fanny Smith has a 207-point lead in the women's FIS Ski Cross World Cup standings, while Canadian Reece Howden has a 129-point advantage at the head of the men's standings.

Both won in Idre Fjäll in Sweden last time out.
