Poland’s Andrzej Stękała topped qualification standings as the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup season continued in Willingen.

The 25-year-old achieved a distance of 152 metres in the qualification round today, which saw him rewarded with a score of 135.9 points.

Stękała, a member of Poland’s bronze medal winning team at the Ski Flying World Championships last month, will chase a maiden World Cup victory tomorrow.

Norway’s Halvor Egner Granerud placed second in qualification, after scoring 134.2 points with his jump.

The top three was completed by Germany’s Markus Eisenbichler, who scored 131.7.

Granerud and Eisenbichler currently lie first and second in the men’s World Cup standings.

Norway’s Granerud has 1,006 points after 15 events this season.

He holds a commanding advantage over Eisenbichler, who lies second on 796.

The first of back-to-back competitions will take place tomorrow.

The World Cup event in Willingen will conclude on Sunday (January 31).

Both events will be night competitions.

Meanwhile, qualification for the latest round of the Women's Ski Jumping World Cup, which is also taking place in Germany, was postponed due to bad weather at the course in Titisee-Neustadt.

Qualification is now scheduled to take place tomorrow at 12.15pm CET, prior to the competition.
