Liverpool City Council has appointed The Sports Consultancy to develop the commercial strategy for the 2022 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

Under the terms of the agreement, The Sports Consultancy will support the Local Organising Committee in the development of its commercial strategy and maximise the support of partners in the lead up to the World Championships.

The Sports Consultancy is a British-based firm specialising in management consultancy, commercial and legal services.

"We are delighted to leverage our major event rights experience to optimise the framework for commercial brands to support the World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022," said The Sports Consultancy associate director Fraser Houlder.

Liverpool was awarded the 2022 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in May 2018.

It means the International Gymnastics Federation's flagship event will return to Britain seven years after Scottish city Glasgow played host in 2015.

ACC Liverpool will stage the competition, which will be one of the biggest sporting events ever held in the city, between October 28 and November 6 in 2022.

"Commercial partnerships at sports events are an essential mix in the delivery of the event," said Liverpool City Council major sports events strategic lead Jen Falding.

"We are delighted to be working with The Sports Consultancy to develop a commercial strategy that not only supports the World Gymnastics Championships but also looks at innovative ways in which partnerships can benefit all parties."

Kitakyushu in Japan has replaced Copenhagen as the host city for next year's Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

The Danish capital withdrew for unspecified reasons in July.
