The Czech Ice Hockey Association (CIHA) has cancelled youth events scheduled for this month due to quarantine measures put in place during the coronavirus pandemic.

Members of the Czech Hockey youth setup tested positive for coronavirus, with measures stating that entire teams then had to enter a fortnightly quarantine.

As a result, camps, matches and tournaments have been cancelled.

There are also concerns over the start of the Czech Extraliga in September and the resumption of international competition.

The CIHA Executive Committee is set to meet over the coming weeks to discuss possible adjustments to the schedule, rules and format.

"Under the currently set quarantine measures, the competition season could probably not take place," said CIHA President Tomáš Král.

"We negotiate daily with representatives of state institutions on how to deal with the situation of clubs organisationally and economically.

"We are working hard on it, but while we could cope with other limitations, we cannot compete without players, training and matches."

The Czech Republic has reported more than 18,400 coronavirus cases and at least 390 deaths from COVID-19.
