FISU and IFBB seek to develop bodybuilding and fitness in university sport in future ©FISU

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) have signed a memorandum of cooperation to further develop the sport together in the future.

Working together, both parties will take steps in future to develop bodybuilding and fitness activities in university sports.

It follows the recent recognition of the sport by FISU two months ago alongside jiu-jitsu and arm wrestling with all three sports being accepted unanimously at the FISU Executive Committee meeting in Lausanne in Switzerland.

Bodybuilding and fitness's eligibility for recognition is due to its affiliation with the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF).

The memorandum includes the implementation of joint activities to allow the practice of fitness and bodybuilding.

It will also promote gender equality in university sports, as well as fair play and fighting against racism.

IFBB and FISU have currently suspended events worldwide due to COVID-19, with more than 3.27 million confirmed cases reported worldwide.
