Nepal Olympic Committee's (NOC) have launched a well being programme for their Tokyo 2020 Olympics athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic which has put restrictions on training in the country.

A one-hour session over video conference was conducted from the NOC headquarters in Lalitpur and led by chairperson of the sports psychology commission Indra Gurung, according to The Himalayan Times.

In a statement, the NOC said, "The training sessions of the athletes have been postponed due to pandemic COVID-19 and all of them are confined to their residencies because of the lockdown.

"We decided to conduct the programme for a week to prevent possible mental and psychological problems in the athletes."

Last year, the NOC picked 11 athletes for its Tokyo 2020 Olympic Scholarship Programme representing seven sports - archery, karate, shooting, swimming, judo, weightlifting and taekwondo.

The NOC will also look to monitor the fitness of athletes during the lockdown period in the country after holding a video conference with stakeholders to discuss how they can keep athletes mentally and physically fit.

In Nepal, there are 31 confirmed cases of COVID-19 to date from over 15,000 tests.
