Purdy, who grew up in Las Vegas, has described the recognition as an "incredible honour".

The American won a silver medal in the snowboard cross at Pyeongchang 2018, having picked up a bronze medal four years earlier.

She also won bronze in the banked slalom in 2018.

"Especially growing up in Vegas, I never imagined that I would be an Olympic snowboarder and a Paralympic snowboarder," Purdy said to the Las Vegas Journal-Review.

"It’s a reminder of that dream that I had when I was a kid and getting to where I got to."

Away from the slopes, Purdy has also appeared on television shows Dancing with the Stars and The Amazing Race.

She was the first double-amputee to take part in Dancing with the Stars, finishing runner-up in 2014.

The Las Vegan's dancing skills were also on show at the Opening Ceremony for the Rio 2016 Paralympics, where she performed.

Purdy has additionally co-founded a charity, Adaptive Action Sports, released an autobiography and worked as an inspirational speaker.

"Each thing I’ve done has tapped into a different demographic or a different audience," Purdy said.

She is one of six inductees to the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame.

Ex-Las Vegas Stars pitcher and politician Larry Brown, National Rodeo Finals general manager Shawn Davis, late University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) basketball player Glen Gondrezick, former UNLV baseball player Ryan Ludwick and DeMarco Murray, an American football player who enjoyed success with the Dallas Cowboys and grew up in Las Vegas, playing for Bishop Gormon High School, make up the class of 2020.

They will be honoured at a ceremony on June 5.
