Francesco Friedrich is hoping to seal the two-man and four-man double for the third consecutive International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation World Championships.

The 2020 edition will resume tomorrow on the German's home track in Altenberg, where he will be eyeing more history by completing a "treble-double".

He has already won the two-man title this year after wrapping up gold during the first half of the Championships with Thorsten Margis last weekend.

That success meant he became just the second pilot to win two-man gold at six World Championships in a row.

Friedrich is also the reigning Olympic champion in both disciplines and won both World Cup titles in the 2019-2020 season.

His rivals for four-man glory this year include Canada's Justin Kripps, who shared two-man Olympic gold with Friedrich at Pyeongchang 2018 after both ended with the same time.

Both pilots claimed three victories each during the four-man World Cup season but the Canadian disappointed in the two-man in Altenberg, finishing 11th.

Kripps was third in the four-man World Cup standings, with Germany's Johannes Lochner the runner-up after one victory and six podium finishes.

Lochner, the European four-man champion, won silver in the two-man behind Friedrich last weekend.

Latvia's two-man bronze medallist Oskars Ķibermanis should also not be discounted from the final reckoning.

The three skeleton titles are also still to be contested in Altenberg.

In the men's event, Latvia's Martins Dukurs enters as the reigning world champion and the winner of this season's World Cup.

The last two Olympic champions, South Korea's Pyeongchang 2018 winner Yun Sung-bin and Russia's Sochi 2014 gold medallist Alexander Tretiakov, will be among his biggest rivals.

Tina Hermann will defend her women's skeleton world crown in front of a home crowd but her compatriot Jacqueline Lölling enters as World Cup champion.

Russia's Elena Nikitina enjoys competing on the Altenberg track and will be another to watch.

As well as the individual events, a mixed skeleton team competition will be held for the first time.

One male and one female slider will make up a team, with the quickest combined time winning.

Runs one and two of the men's skeleton will take place tomorrow, before their medals are decided on Friday (February 28).

The women's skeleton will start on Friday and end on Saturday (February 29), when the four-man bobsleigh will also start.

On Sunday (March 1) the four-man will conclude and the mixed team skeleton will be held.
