Jessy Franco made home advantage count when he scorched to men’s 200 metres gold at the Island Games today.

The Gibraltarian clocked 22.47 seconds to finish ahead of Guernsey’s Joe Chadwick and Jersey’s Tyler Johnson at Lathbury Sports Complex.

Elsewhere, Åland’s Sara Wiss was victorious in the women’s 100m after she recorded 12.83 seconds.

Isle of Wight’s James Forman triumphed in the 400m hurdles in 52.71, while Genro Paas of Saaremaa topped the rostrum in the men’s shot put with 14.82m.

In the men’s 60kg judo final at Devil’s Tower Camp, Aso Hosseini of Åland was a 10-0 winner over Damià Marí of Menorca.

Pau Aguado of Menorca and Aiden Ward of Jersey took bronze medals.

The 10m air rifle team title went to Jersey’s Darren Fry and Cameron Pirouet, who scored 1,217.2 to finish ahead of Gibraltar’s Stephanie Piri and Mairead Lourdes Anne Sheriff on 1,213.6 and Gotland’s Amanda Glansholm and Erica Karlsson on 1,210.2.

Greenland were the champions in the badminton team event, edging out Guernsey 3-2 at Europa Point Sports Complex.

Jersey lead the medal table with 10 medals of each colour, while Guernsey are second, Isle of Man third and Faroe Islands fourth – those three nations having won seven golds apiece.
