The United States routed hosts China 69-0 as action begun today at the World University American Football Championship in Harbin.

It gets the 2016 runners-up off to the perfect start in the round-robin tournament.

Today's other game, between Japan and South Korea, was suspended in the second quarter due to a thunderstorm.

Japan were eventually confirmed as 32-0 winners.

Two-time defending champions Mexico are due to begin their campaign on Saturday (June 16). 

They will meet South Korea before Japan go up against China.

Tomorrow is a rest day.

Harbin is hosting the third edition of the World University American Football Championship.
