Several Peruvian athletes have held demonstrations for students at a school in the district of Ventanilla, in the build-up to the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima.

Lima 2019 ambassadors and Para swimmers Pilar Jauregui and Dunia Felices, Para badminton world champion Giuliana Poveda and the Peruvian Para taekwondo team performed the demonstrations at the Jorge Rebaza Portocarrero school in a bid to spread enthusiasm ahead of the Parapan American Games, due to take place next year from August 23 to September 1.

Locals were also invited to learn more about Para-sports and the school students were given the opportunity to take part in the exhibition sports.

Jauregui claimed the event was an important factor in changing the perception of people with impairments.

"For us, it is exciting and important to participate in this kind of activities and share them with the people," she said.

"We hope they can play sports like us because it will help them to move forward."

The event also saw Lima 2019 Parapan American integration specialise Andres Viale explain the inclusion and accessibility policies that will be adopted by Peru prior to the Games.

The day was concluded by school director Helen Valverde Caldas, who thanked the athletes for their visit and the students with an impairment who took part in the activities.
