A Main Press Centre (MPC) due to house almost 3,000 accredited media during Pyeongchang 2018 has officially opened today with exactly one month to go until the Opening Ceremony.

The MPC is located in the Alpensia Resort close to the mountain venues cluster and other key sites such as the main Athletes' Village and the official International Olympic Committee hotel.

It will remain open daily from 8am until 11pm until January 30 and for 24 hours per day from thereafter.

The MPC consists of three buildings housing press and photographers' rooms as well as three press conference rooms and lounge areas.

It is the same building used by the IOC for most of their Coordination Commission inspection visits as well as for an IOC Executive Board meeting last March.

"With one month to go until the Opening Ceremony, we are delighted to open the Main Press Centre today and we are ready to welcome the world's media as they start to join us over the coming weeks," said Pyeongchang 2018 President Lee Hee-beom.

"International and local media are very important to the success of Pyeongchang 2018.

"They tell the stories of the Games to the world and celebrate their Olympic and Paralympic heroes for all to see.

"Across their channels they help us reach new audiences, using both words and images to convey all the action and excitement of Pyeongchang 2018 to the world.

"We thank them for their support and hope they will all feel at home at the MPC."

The opening comes on a day of good news for the Games in which it has also been confirmed that North Korea plan to participate.

The International Broadcast Centre (IBC) located nearby in Alpensia also officially opened its doors today.

It will accommodate more than 50 broadcasting companies and over 8,000 personnel during the course of the Games.
