Calgary is poised to stage the first International Ski Federation (FIS) Moguls World Cup competition of 2018.

Women's qualification is set to begin later today, with the men's following tomorrow alongside the finals for both events.

The host nation has enjoyed multiple successes in Calgary previously, with Justine Dufour-Lapointe having finished on the podium six times, including two victories.

The Canadian could be into contention again, but Australia's Britteny Cox is considered one of the favourites.

She triumphed in last year's event, which ultimately saw the Australian secure the overall World Cup title.

It completed a double success for Australia, with Matt Graham having won the men's event at the venue.

His victory ended Mikael Kingsbury's streak of six straight wins, although the Canadian extended his record to seven consecutive podiums.

Kingsbury will head into the event in dominant form, having won the last ten World Cup competitions to pull away in the overall standings.

The women's standings are led by the United States' Jaelin Kauf, who has a victory and a runner-up finish in her last two World Cup appearances.

The competition is one of four moguls events prior to the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, with several athletes needing to impress if they are to secure places in their country’s team.

Pyeongchang 2018 will take place from February 9 to 25.
