USA Taekwondo is looking for feedback from its members regarding a new national rankings system which is due to launch in 2018.

The governing body is giving its members the chance to review the proposal and make possible changes before it comes into effect at the 2018 US Open in Las Vegas.

The event in the American city is scheduled to run from January 28 to February 2.

USA Taekwondo has set a deadline of January 6 for members to provide their input.

The organisation said feedback from those who are part of the governing body was essential as the new rankings will directly impact qualification for the national team.

In a statement, USA Taekwondo claimed the updated rankings, in which all members who participate in sanctioned events will be ranked according to performance, would allow the body to spot talent at a much earlier stage.

It is hoped this will enable the governing body to unearth potential high-performance athletes quicker than before.

USA Taekwondo also claimed it would "provide added value to all of our members who will be able to monitor and celebrate their progress at local, state and national level".

"We believe that, once established, we will have a much stronger pipeline of both athletes and coaches, far greater medal potential, and have many more opportunities for athletes to compete in, and improve through, quality tournaments," the body added.
