Japan's Takuma Ueda has come through his qualifying match today at the Badminton World Federation Denmark Open in Odense to set up a round one encounter with home favourite and reigning world champion Viktor Axelsen.

Ueda, currently ranked 57th in the world, claimed a comfortable straight sets win over The Netherlands' Erik Meijs at the Odense Sports Park.

Meijs, who made it through to the round of 16 at last week's Dutch Open, proved no match for his Japanese opponent as Ueda ran out a 21-15, 21-15 winner.

There was another Dutch casualty today in the form of Mark Caljouw.

Despite reaching the semi-finals at the Dutch Open last week, Caljouw was beaten by Estonia's Raul Must 18-21, 21-15, 22-20.

Finland's Kalle Koljonen also booked a place in the main draw with a 21-17, 21-15 win over Norway's Marius Myhre.

There was home success in the men's qualifiers for Denmark's Rasmus Gemke.

He brushed aside Ireland's Scott Evans 21-19, 21-12 to advance.

In the women's singles event, Denmark's Julie Dawall Jakobsen recovered from a set down to progress.

Indonesia's Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky took the opening set 21-16 but the Dane clawed her way back by winning the second and third 21-19, 24-22.

England's Chloe Birch won in much more comfortable fashion as she overcame Lia Salehar of Slovenia 21-10, 21-13.

Two German players also managed to book places in the main draw.

Fabienne Deprez was the first after she beat Slovakia's Martina Repiska 11-21, 21-10, 21-12.

She was joined in the next round by compatriot Yvonne Li after she silenced the home crowd by beating Denmark's Iben Bergstein 21-15, 21-19.
