Beiwen Zhang of the United States is through to the semi-finals of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Dutch Open in Almere.

The tournament's top seed was in emphatic form as she brushed aside Japan's Haruko Suzuki at the Topsportcentrum in straight sets.

Suzuki, seeded eighth this week, was no match for Zhang who claimed a comfortable 21-11, 21-12 victory.

Awaiting her in the final four is Ukraine's Maria Ulitina after she came from a set down to progress.

Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt won the opening set 21-16 but failed to build on that as Ulitina came roaring back to win the second and third 21-16, 21-19 to progress.

There was Danish success in the bottom half of the draw though as Natalia Koch Rohde, seeded fifth, claimed a 21-19, 18-21, 21-12 win over compatriot Mette Poulsen.

She will now play Canada's Michelle Li for a place in the final after she proved too strong for another Dane in Sofie Holmboe Dahl, winning 15-21, 21-11, 21-19.

Wang, a double gold medallist at the recent Summer Universiade in his home country, claimed a 21-19, 21-19 win over Denmark's Emil Holst.

Japan's Yu Igarashi will be Wang's opponent for a place in the final after he claimed a walkover victory against Israel's Misha Zilberman.

Kento Momota of Japan is also into the semi-finals of the men's event.

He beat Denmark's Hans-Kristian Vittinghus 21-12, 21-18 and will now play home favourite Mark Caljouw.

Roared on by his home crowd, Caljouw overcame Ukrainian Artem Pochtarov 21-4, 21-14.
