Germany recovered from their 4-0 drubbing against Iran by defeating Guinea at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup and advancing to the last 16 in India.

The footballing powerhouse were stunned by their heavy defeat to the Iranians in Group C but they recovered to see off the African outfit 3-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi.

Hamburg striker Jann-Fiete Arp gave Germany the lead with just eight minutes played but Guinea pegged them back, thanks to Ibrahima Soumah's second goal of the tournament just short of the half-an-hour mark.

Just over an hour had been played when Germany finally went back in front.

Arp was involved as he set-up Nicolas Kuehn for a 62nd minute finish.

Sahverdi Cetin added extra gloss to the scoreline with a stoppage time penalty.

It means Germany have gone through in second place behind Iran, who ended their group phase with a 100 per cent record.

They saw off Costa Rica 3-0 at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao.

Two first half penalties put Iran into a commanding position with captain Mohammad Ghobeishavi converting the first and Taha Sharaiati netting the other.

Mohammad Sardari added a stoppage time third for the Iranians, who will lose their skipper for the next round after he picked up a second yellow card of the tournament.

Costa Rica and Guinea have both ended on a single point and will not qualify as one of the best third-place teams.

Group D also concluded today with Brazil cruising through with three wins from three.

They saw off Niger 2-0 at the Fatorda Stadium with Lincoln scoring at the back-post for an early opener.

Brenner's free-kick then doubled the advantage following a massive deflection with 34 minutes played.

Despite defeat, Niger's three points proves enough to send them through as a third-place side.

Spain went through in second after defeating winless North Korea 2-0.

Mohamed Moukhliss' simple finish gave the Spanish a fourth minute lead before Cesar Gelabert made sure of the win 20 minutes from time.

North Korea also ended with ten men as Pae Kwang-Min was sent off at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Groups E and F will conclude tomorrow.
