India have been eliminated from the FIFA Under-17 World Cup on home soil following a 4-0 defeat to Ghana in their final Group A match today.

Two goals by captain Eric Ayiah and strikes from Richard Danso and Emmanuel Toku at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi helped Ghana to secure top spot in the group on goal difference and a place in the round of 16.

Defeat for the hosts, meanwhile, ended their dreams of making the knockout stages in their first-ever FIFA competition after suffering three consecutive defeats.

Elsewhere in Group A, Colombia recorded a 3-1 victory over the United States in a hard-fought match that saw both teams go through at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The result leaves both sides even on six points along with group winners Ghana and the Colombians claiming the tie-breaker based on the head-to-head result.

The Americans came into the match without having conceded a goal, but fell behind early on as Juan Vidal was quickest to a long throw into the box that wasn't properly cleared.

The US were level on 24 minutes after a superb run and pass from Andrew Carleton set up George Acosta to finish in the box.

Juan Penaloza found the break-through with a finely taken free-kick on 67 minutes before Deiber Caicedo completed the scoring in the 87th minute.

The Americans' record cannot be beaten by any of the other current third placed teams and they have therefore progressed as well.

in Group B, Paraguay made it three wins out of three by beating Turkey 3-1 in Mumbai.

Goals from Giovanni Bogado and Fernando Cardozo at the end of the first half left Turkey with it all to do after the break and their task became almost-impossible after Antonio Galeano added a third just after the hour mark.

Turkey did manage to find a consolation in second-half injury time from Kerem Kesgin's powerful shot from the edge of the area.

Mali secured their spot in the round of 16 after an assured 3-1 victory over New Zealand in New Delhi.

Today result sees them finish second behind Paraguay, while New Zealand miss out on the knockout stages after claiming one point from their three group matches.

The Eaglets dominated proceedings at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, hitting the woodwork on two occasions during the contest, and deservedly took the lead through Salam Jiddou’s excellent strike on 18 minutes.

Djemoussa Traore was a constant threat down the left for Mali, and five minutes after the break, he doubled the African side’s lead with a fine curling effort into the far corner of the net.

Substitute Charles Spragg headed home an Elijah Just cross to halve the deficit for New Zealand on 72 minutes.

However, any hopes that the Oceania side had of a comeback ended ten minutes later, as Lassana N'Diaye scored his third goal of the tournament to seal victory for the Chile 2015 runners-up.

The event in India is due to continue tomorrow with another four matches.
