Choi Min-jeong of South Korea continued her superb start to the International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track World Cup season as she claimed victory in the women's 1,500 metres during the latest event of the campaign in Dordrecht.

The 2015 world champion arrived in the Dutch city having clinched four gold medals last weekend in Budapest and maintained her strong form by winning the 1,500m in 2min 31.334sec at the Sportboulevard.

Canada’s Valerie Maltais finished behind the dominant South Korean skater, while Choi's team-mate Shim Suk-hee came through to take third place.

"I do feel great,” Choi said.

“Not unbeatable but great.

"I didn’t expect to win, I was just doing my best.

"I am trying to feel more calm, with less pressure on the ice.”

It proved to be another disappointing outing for Britain's Elise Christie, who is among the favourites for gold at February's Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, as she was penalised following a fall in the first semi-final.

South Korea also enjoyed success in the men's 1,500m race as Hwang Dae-heon powered home to secure the gold medal.

Hwang clocked 2:12.479 on his way to victory, with Shaolin Sandor Liu of Hungary second and Canada’s Charles Hamelin third.

Canada swept the 500m events as they won both the men's and women's races on the second day of competition.

Samuel Girard took the men's honours in 40.767 as he held off the challenges of Dutchman Sjinkie Knegt and Hwang, silver and bronze medallists respectively.

Marianne St-Gelais triumphed in the women's race, leading home a Canadian one-two as she beat Kim Boutin with a time of 43.149.

Martina Valcepina of Italy finished third.

The event in Dordrecht concludes tomorrow.
