Rio 2016 Olympic women's gold medallists China secured victory over defending champions Brazil in front of a home crowd at the International Volleyball Federation World Grand Prix Group One Finals today.

Their success came in straight sets at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre as they recorded a 25-22, 25-17, 29-27 win.

Top scoring for the hosts was Zhu Ting, who bagged 16 points consisting of 15 attacks and a block.

Her team-mate Zhang Changning finished the match a point behind Zhu.

Tandara Caixeta was Brazil’s highest scorer with 18.

Today’s other match was a tighter encounter as Serbia needed five sets to see off the United States.

Brankica Mihailovic got 25 points for her country, with 21 attacks and four blocks, as the Rio 2016 silver medallists eventually won 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 18-25, 15-11 against the nation who got bronze at last year’s Olympics.

Action in Nanjing continues tomorrow with the US facing Italy and Brazil playing against The Netherlands.
