Yoeri Havik and Wim Stroetinga are closing in on victory in the Six Day Series event in Berlin as the Dutch pair lead the overall standings with one day of action remaining.

The pairing finished the day five with a tally of 412 points, aided by a several strong performances in the Berlin Velodrome.

Kenny de Ketele and Moreno de Pauw of Belgium remain in second place overall but they will need to regain a lap on the Dutch pairing to stand a chance of a third victory of the series.

The Amsterdam and London winners are also trailing on points, as they would still be 10 points down on Havik and Stroetinga even in the event of securing the lap.

Pim Ligthart and Jens Mouris lie third, with the second pairing from the Netherlands also being a lap adrift of the leaders, as well as having a tally of 324 points.

Austria’s Andreas Graf and Andreas Müller, who had led on the opening day of the competition, are the only other team to be a lap down.

The duo have a lower total of 260 points.

Havik and Stroetinga began the day by finishing second in the madison chase discipline behind the French pair of Kneisky Morgan and Benjamin Thomas.

Denmark’s Marc Hester emerged as the winner of the longest lap competition, ending ahead of Thomas.

Havik and Stroetinga would extend their overall lead by triumphing in the 60-lap derny B final, which came ahead of the day's closing madison chase.

Grad and Müller would be victorious as they gained a lap on the field to boost their prospects in the overall event.

Denmark's Amalie Dideriksen leads the women's omnium, while home favourite Maximilian Levy tops the men's sprint classification.
