Wim Stroetinga claimed an impressive madison chase victory in the last race of tonight's action at the Berlin leg of cycling's Six Day Series to give himself and partner Yoeri Havik the overnight lead.

Stroetinga came from nowhere in the final few stages to pip Switzerland's Claudio Imhof and The Netherlands' Moreno De Pauw in the madison, which concluded today’s action in the Berlin Velodrome.

As a result Stroetinga and Havik now hold the lead overnight on 166 points while Belgium’s Kenny de Ketele and Moreno de Pauw, the winners of the London and Amsterdam legs of the series, occupy second.

Great Britain's Chris Latham and Andy Tennant complete the top three after two days of racing.

The first madison chase of the day was won by Joshua Harrison and Tirian McManus of Australia while Tristan Marguet and Imhof of Switzerland were victorious in the scratch race.

Germany's Christian Grasmann and partner Maximilian Beyer then prevailed in the men's scratch race this evening, edging out de Ketele and de Pauw, who took second.

Alex Rasmussen and Casper Pedersen, the Danish duo, were imperious in the two lap madison time trial while Great Britain's Tennant and Latham could not be beaten in the longest lap event.

Morgan Kneisky and Benjamin Thomas, the Frenchmen, won the 40 lap derny.

Germany's Maximilian Levy leads the sprint standings following today's competition.

Levy, who has won team sprint bronze medals at both Beijing 2008 and London 2012 as well as a keirin silver in the English capital, won today's flying 250m time trial.

Another German, Rene Enders, was successful in the men's keirin event as he defeated compatriot and world champion Joachim Eilers on the line.

The series intends to give six day racing a "21st Century makeover", with a television-friendly format set to feature international teams of riders across multiple events during the six days.

The top 12 male and female riders throughout the series will qualify for a one night final event, which will take place in Palma, Mallorca.

Action is set to continue tomorrow.
