Cyclist Liubov Basova has been named as the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine's Athlete of the Month for November after a series of strong performances.

The 28-year-old has impressed in the early stages of the track cycling season, having earned three medals at the first two International Cycling Union (UCI) Track World Cups.

Basova came away from the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow with two silver medals during the opening World Cup of the season.

The Ukrainian had to settle for the runner-up spot behind Lithuania’s Simona Krupeckaitė in both the individual sprint and keirin events.

She claimed a gold medal the following week at Apeldoorn in The Netherlands when she triumphed in the women’s keirin.

The performances continued Basova’s strong run of form after the Ukrainian was crowned the women’s European keirin champion in Paris during October.

Basova made the final of the keirin at the lympic Games in Rio de Janeiro but finishedoutside the medal positions, coming fifth.

It is the second time Basova has earned the Athlete of the Month award, having done so back in January 2011.

Her coach Sergiy Bazin will also receive the Coach of the Month honour.
