London 2012 Olympic pommel horse champion Krisztián Berki of Hungary and Ukrainian bronze medallist in vault Igor Radivilov are among the 50 athletes registered to compete at the opening International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Individual Apparatus World Cup event of the season in Cottbus in Germany.

The pair, who have both had moves on their specialist apparatus named after them following Rio 2016, are joined by the likes of Olympians Zsofia Kovacs of Hungary, Spain's Rayderley Zapata, Angelina Kysla of the Ukraine and Irina Sazonova of Iceland at the competition, due to get underway tomorrow and conclude on Sunday (November 20).

Olympians Lukas Dauser and Andreas Bretschneider are the headline names on Germany's team for the competition at the Lausitz Arena Cottbus.

Athletes will be bidding to earn points based on their rankings on each apparatus at the series of events, which features eight stops on the path to the final in Doha in Qatar in March 2018.

The points from each gymnast's best three finishes will be totalled to determine the World Cup series winner on that apparatus.

Cottbus, Baku, Melbourne in Australia and Doha will each stage two competitions during the 2016-2018 Individual Apparatus World Cup calendar.

"We wanted to emphasise the World Cup series in our competition calendar, and to have continuity in competitions in order to highlight these fantastic events and make it more exciting for the public and the media," outgoing FIG President Bruno Grandi, due to be replaced by Japan's Morinari Watanabe, said.

"This is the beginning of a new Olympic cycle, and it will be interesting to watch new talent emerge on the road to Tokyo 2020."

Two days of qualification begins tomorrow, with finals due to get underway on Saturday (November 19).

"We look at Cottbus as an opportunity for younger gymnasts," Germany men's coach Andreas Hirsch said.

"Nick Klessing and Nils Dunkel are interesting athletes for us.

"However, with Lukas Dauser and Andreas Bretschneider we also have experienced gymnasts lining up, who are able to do well.

"Christopher Jursch is the local star and will have the chance to perform on his specialty apparatus the horizontal bar."
