Rio 2016 has unveiled the music video for the Olympic and Paralympic Games theme song, entitled “Heart and Soul”.

The song was produced by Brazilian DJ duo Tropkillaz, comprised of André Laudz and Zé Gonzalez, and features lyrics from rapper Projota and pop singer Thiaguinho.

The video features four children between the ages of 10 and 12 who are active participants in sport, including 10-year-old Antônio Marcelo Machado Corrêa, a keen fan of athletics and football.

In the film, Antônio heads straight for the brand-new track at the Olympic Stadium and dances with joy before imitating his biggest idol Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprinter who has won six Olympic golds and 11 world titles.

Others who are depicted in the short theme song video are a boxer from the Vidigal favela community, a swimmer from Jardim Botânico and a gymnast from Santa Teresa.

A number of venues due to be used for next month’s Olympics, which get underway with the Opening Ceremony at the Maracanã Stadium on August 5, also formed a large part of the narrative of the video.

It was shot across several locations, including the the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, Leblon Beach and the favela of Vidigal.

“This song sounds like Brazil,” 33-year-old Thiaguinho said.

"It’s about fighting hard and giving your best, with your heart and soul.

“Sport teaches us a lot of things.

"It gives people an equal opportunity to compete regardless of their financial situation.

“It teaches you that some days you win, some days you lose, just as in life."

His co-star in the song, Projota, believes the song represents some of the core Brazilian values.

“We both chose the song,” he said.

"There are plenty more things that unite us than things that set us apart.

“It’s a song about overcoming a situation.

“It's about lifting your self-esteem, about running, fighting, making things happen.”
