The 23-year-old continued his excellent season with his ninth World Cup win of the campaign in the Japanese city, the 1972 Winter Olympics host.

This was the first leg of the season to take place in Asia but Prevc was still in the same form as the Four Hills and Ski Flying World Championships winner registered the joint best opening leap of 131.5 metres.

That gained him 147 points, and he then bettered that effort second time around with a jump of 136.5m which earned him a tally of 152 and an overall winning score of 299.

His younger brother Domen, who is only 16, gained a second podium of the season behind his sibling with jumps of 129.5m and 134.5m which was enough for 282.8 points.

Thirty-four-year-old Robert Kranjec, a team bronze medallist at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, completed the all-Slovenian podium with two equal efforts of 131.5m.

Kranjec's opening jump saw him level with Peter Prevc but in the end he had to settle for bronze with 281.9 points, although it was the first visit to the podium this season for the twice Ski Flying world champion.

"Of course it's special when three Slovenes are on the podium," said Peter Prevc.

"My first jump was not so good, the second one was a lot better."

Domen Prevc added: "I don't want to speak about who I have to beat.

"It depends on both of us whether I can beat my brother or not.

"My style of jumping might look a bit risky, but I don't consider it risky.

"I don't think it's risky when I have it under control."

Peter Prevc extended his lead in the overall standings ahead of the second competition in Sapporo tomorrow (January 31) as he now has 1184 points ahead of Germany's Severin Freund who is on 805.

Freund, last season's overall winner, finished 10th after a fall but he didn't suffer any injuries.

Meanwhile, the women's Ski Jumping World Cup continued in Oberstdorf in Germany with Japan's Sara Takanashi continuing her domination of the season with a seventh win out of eight events.

Her jumps of 104m and 107m gave the overall leader a winning points total of 278.5.

Austria's Daniela Iraschko-Stolz was second with jumps of 97.5m and 100m for a tally of 251.7 points, while Slovenia's Ema Klinec was third after efforts of 96.5m and 100.5m which gave her 250.2 points.
