Tickets for events that had previously been sold out are available to Brazilian residents from today as part of the latest raft of online sales for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

They are available to buy on a first-come-first-served basis, beginning at 10am local time.

As well as tickets left over after the first phase - which consisted of two draws in the spring and summer - tickets returned by fans, sponsors or sports organisations via the official resale programme are also up for purchase.

This follows the launching of the resale programme on October 1.

To be eligible to apply, a Cadastrado de Pessoas Físicas (Tax Registation) number is required as well as a permanent Brazilian address, with those wishing to take part advised to register their details on the ticket portal in advance.

High demand so far means there is a waiting time of around five minutes before you are able to access the website, accessible here.

All seats at 121 of the 694 sessions available were sold-out after the first round of sales, including all tickets for the triathlon, the marathon swimming and synchronised swimming events.

More than 750,000 ticket applications were recorded within the first 24 hours of them going on sale for the first time in March.

Tickets are still not available for non-Brazilians, who are invited to apply through respective authorised ticket resellers (ATR) in their country.

The portal is expected to be extended to non-Brazilian residents in June 2016.
